Assesment Accessing the media

We were asked to write a response to a question regarding the summer work and how we found we accessed the media. This was my response:   Reflecting on the research I did over the summer the way my generation accesses news content has been made a lot easier over the years due to advances in technology. Now you can download a app to your phone and all the content is in front of you, this links in with what Dan Gillmor predicted in 2004 when he said ‘The spreading of an item of news, or of something much larger, will occur – much more so than today- without any help from mass media as we know it. The people who’ll understand this the best are probably just being born. In the meantime, even the beginnings of this ‘shift’ are forcing all of us to adjust our assumptions and behaviour.’ Also, big media organisations have now opted for using social media as a form of spreading news around the world. As many people now use social media and the percentage of people who go out to b...

Evoloution of News

The oldest newspaper is from 1665 and it was called the Oxford Gazette, the problem with this was that there wasn't many people with much education so not many people could read, at that time that was the only way people accessed the news there wasn't any other way apart from word of mouth but that wasn't as popular. Now we see that younger generations use social media for a lot of news, snapchat, Facebook and twitter are the most common ways now days for younger generations to find out where as adults tend to watch the news on the TV and older generations such as grandparents tend to still buy newspapers because that is what they grew up with. We see now that journalism is coming from everyone, people take to social media to report on events that happen around them and it is our own choice to believe them or not. Dan Gillmor suggests that "amateur journalists are taking over the professionals" Adam Stacey was at one of the tube stations when a bomb went off i...

My view on Democracy

Democracy in my view is a good thing that we have in our society. This is because it gives the public the chance to have their say on what happens in many things such as the government. Also, because we have a free society it enables us to do things such as protests if we disagree with things and, we have the chance to start petitions if we believe something is right. I believe it is better to have a freedom of speech because when looking at country’s such as North Korea who don’t have a freedom of speech or the internet or any access, and there are so many problems over there now where people are rebelling and then other countries have now got involved causing more trouble.
